Our myth is defined as the "American Dream" or "Land of Opportunity" which is how some builds themselves us up to success in the U.S. Emily and I will dive into a deep analysis of our myth. The myth is showing us how an individual opportunities can affect a person's ability to become successful and achieve the "American Dream." Research for the digital essay was during school and interviews were conducted with various Lima Senior's Staff and previous students. The questions that we asked our interviewees were asked to get them to show their views about how opportunity is about important. We read the book "Rereading America: Cultural Context for Critical Thinking" and used information from the book to helps us to understand our myth. Our presentation we help you digest our myth and make you ask various questions during Q and A time.
During the process of interviewing, We saw a positive correlation between our student interviewers and staff interviewers. The answers that they gave were very similar to another. Many of them all felt that it had to do with both motivation and luck when it comes to determining success but they all felt that it had more to do with motivation. We both agreed that motivation was the most important factor due to a person who wants something will go out and find a way to accomplish that feat. As group we have a goal of gaining an A for this project and to accomplish that we have diligently done research about our myth and conducted our interviews.
Another question that we ask that gave us some great answers was, Would you rather multiple opportunities to get to one goal or one big opportunities to get to that one goal. All our answers were that they would rather many small opportunities. Mr. Reed's answer was "If I had a bunch of different little opportunities that would get me to the same goal eventually, I would rather do that so that way I wouldn't get bored." His answer was spot on with how we both feel regarding the question. If you have many opportunities you get to know more people experience different environments and so much more. The teachers and previous students answers helped us understand the myth much more.
We came to a conclusion that our myth is strongly supported by the teachers that motivation is a key factor in determining success. The interviewees gave their their respective responses to their questions which helped us to analyze of our information accurately. In one our interview with Coach Q he stated, "I'm a firm believer everything starts at home." What he said absolutely made sense with how parents have to raise their kids a certain way so that they can observe and use the various opportunities that are thrown at them. However, luck still plays a part of the process but knowing that the kid come from a good family allows them to obtain and use various opportunities that may arise to them. Even if they are not from the prototypical family, the opportunities are available to everyone but you have to go out and get it or earn it. Another key thing that Coach Q said was "You have to be self motivated." He is correct with what he said because that self motivation or confidence can help you in a job interview setting or even be able to talk to teachers about various circumstances. Within Lima Senior's walls that self motivation can take you to places that you dream of. The school provides a countless amount of opportunities for kids to use but we as students just need to have that self motivation to grasp it and use it.
